Please join WID GTB for the June Get Informed Luncheon
Reflections on Women in National Security

featuring Ambassador Mary Carlin Yates

AMB-YatesIt’s not often you have the opportunity to meet someone with 31 years of worldwide diplomatic experience. Join us as we welcome AMB (Ret) Mary Carlin Yates, former US Ambassador to Burundi and Ghana and highly acclaimed veteran diplomat whose career covered three major geographic areas: Africa, Europe and Asia. Yates will address WID members and guests with a presentation reflecting on women in national security.

Now an independent consultant with Deloitte Consulting LLP, AMB Yates began her diplomatic career for the Department of State in Korea and the Philippines in the 1980s. She served more than a decade in Africa, including as US Ambassador in war-torn Burundi when she worked with Nelson Mandela on the peace process and then as US Ambassador to Ghana. She was chosen as the first-ever civilian Deputy in a regional Military Command (DCMA) at the US Africa Command. These successes were followed by Special Assistant to the President as well as Chargé d’affaires in Embassy Khartoum. Recently she returned to the State Department on assignment as a Senior Inspector in the Office of the Inspector General.

Individual volunteers and teams are asked to register online at http://www.flagsforfallenvets.com/Contact.html. All ages are welcome. Teams and individuals will be “assigned” to sections of the cemetery, and can request to place flags in areas where they have friends or loved ones that have been laid to rest.
