Wednesday, 11 November – 11:00 am – Hillsborough County Veterans Council 51st Annual Veterans Day Tribute – The Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, Inc. will honor all veterans at the 51st Annual Veterans Day Tribute at Veterans Memorial Park and Rear Adm. LeRoy Collins Jr. Veterans Museum, 3602 U.S. 301 N. in Tampa. The public is invited. The Veterans Day Tribute will begin with the presentation of colors by the Joint Services Color Guard, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill AFB and Middleton High School Air Force JROTC Cadets. A ceremony in remembrance of the veterans who served in World War II and a commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War will also be conducted, as well as the POW/MIA Missing Man ceremony to commemorate those who have not yet returned home from duty. The program will include the Hillsborough County School District JROTC Units performing exhibition drills, reading patriotic poems, and giving oral presentations. The Master of Ceremonies is Walt Raysick, Past President of the Veterans Council, and the keynote speaker will be retired, Rear Adm. Edward G. Winters III USN, who served with U.S. Special Operations Command, at MacDill AFB. The coveted Edwin Porterfield Award and the Keeping the American Patriotic Spirit Alive Award will be presented by the Veterans Council. The event will conclude with the playing of “Taps” and a rifle salute by the Riverview Detachment of the Marine Corps League. In addition, the POW/MIA Chair of Honor will be on display.
