ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pathways Student Intern Program
Do you know a high school or college student who is interested in a US federal government career or gaining valuable “on the job” training while in school? The Pathways Student Intern Program can provide that opportunity.
Who is eligible? Minimum age to apply is 16; however, if the position being recruited by the command requires a security clearance, then the minimum age is 18 so that the student candidate can be vetted through our security office.
The student must be accepted to, or currently enrolled in, an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying diploma, degree or certificate. The student must have 2.5 or above GPA (Command requirement)
Where does he/she apply? All students interested in job opportunities under Pathways Student Intern Program must apply through open announcements on USAJOBS (www.usajobs.gov). They need to build an account in in USAJOBS. The student needs to upload a resume, transcripts/grades, and any other documents (acceptance letter or letters of recommendation, SF-50s if they have prior government service, DD214 if prior military, etc.) to their account for use when they apply. IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Veteran’s preference does apply, meaning veterans get first priority.
They can search on the key word “pathways” and USAJOBS will pull up all open announcements that have Pathways in the title. Ours, of course, will have “Space and Naval Warfare” listed for command and the duty locations available are also listed in the announcement.
Students can set up “saved searches” notifications so that they will be alerted when an announcement opens. Any job series that ends with “99” is a student trainee position. [Example: 0899 is a Student Trainee (Engineer) or 1599 is a Student Trainee (Scientist), etc.] There is a tutorial on how to set up “saved search” notifications under the “Resource Center” tab on the USAJOBS website (first page, across the top).
