SPOTLIGHT EVENT

As many already know, last week long-standing business and civic leader Al Austin passed away at age 85. During his 60 year business career, he set many important milestones:

  • He was among the first to develop Tampa’s Westshore Business District. (The largest business district in Florida)
  • He played a leadership role in guiding the development of Tampa International Airport.
  • He was instrumental in securing and expanding MacDill Air Force Base. (Headquarters of CENTCOM an SOCOM)
  • He chaired the Host Committee for the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay.

These are just a few of his accomplishments….

In 2007 WEDU did a one-on-one interview with Al Austin for WEDU TV 3’s “Suncoast Business Forum”. As a tribute to Al Austin’s great achievements and contributions to our community, WEDU TV 3 (PBS) is re-broadcasting that profile this Thursday night, May 29th at 8:30 pm., and Sunday June 1st at 7:00 pm.
